Why play with bounties at all?

In poker, bounty chips are a special form of tournament chips that bring an additional incentive and element of excitement to the game. Unlike traditional tournaments where players simply play for their chip stacks, bounty chips add an interesting social and strategic dimension.

The basic idea behind Bountychips: Each player places a set amount as a "bounty" on themselves at the start of the tournament. This amount is then added to the bounty chips circulating on the table. If a player knocks another player out of the tournament by winning their chips, they will also receive their bounty chips as a reward.

These bounty chips add an additional dynamic to the game, as players not only aim to increase their own chip stacks, but also specifically try to eliminate players with high bounties from the game. This can lead to interesting decisions as players weigh whether they should play more aggressively to score a potentially big bounty, or play more defensively to protect their own bounty.

Overall, bounty chips provide more interaction and strategic depth in the game of poker by reinforcing the social component and creating the incentive to take targeted action against certain players. This format is particularly popular in special bounty tournaments, where players compete not only for the pot, but also for the bounties of their opponents.

Different bounty tournament variants:

A "Bounty Tournament" and a "Progressive Bounty Tournament" are two different variants of poker tournaments, each with different rules and dynamics:

Bounty tournament:

  • In a traditional bounty tournament, players place a fixed amount as a bounty on themselves at the start of the tournament. This amount is added to the bounty chips circulating in the game.
  • If a player knocks another out of the tournament by winning their chips, they receive that player's bounty as a reward. The player who is eliminated from the tournament leaves not only his regular chip stack, but also his bounty amount for the winning player.
  • The dynamic is that players not only fight to win chips, but also specifically try to eliminate players with high bounties.

Progressive Bounty Tournament:

  • A Progressive Bounty tournament takes things a step further by making the bounties more dynamic. Here, a player who knocks another out of the tournament receives not only that player's fixed bounty, but also a portion of his own bounty.
  • When a player eliminates an opponent, they receive a portion of the eliminated player's bounty, while the other portion is added to their own bounty. This results in a player's bounty increasing over the course of the tournament the more opponents they eliminate.
  • The progressive bounties add an additional layer of strategy as players not only aim to eliminate players with high bounties, but can also attempt to target players whose bounties have already grown significantly.

In summary, both variants offer an exciting expansion of the classic tournament format, with the Progressive Bounty tournament introducing additional complexity and dynamics through the ever-increasing bounties of successful players.
